Common driving offenses avoidable with defensive driving classes

It not just enough you drive safely; you should also know the mistakes that are commonly committed by you or by the other drivers. This article is to discuss about them in brief which will benefit many people for read this article.

DWI / DUI

Mistakes committed while driving the car in inebriated condition is the crime committed quite frequently. In general the drunken driving mistakes are felonies, of course depending on the circumstances at the time of mistake. There are two types of drunk driving crimes. They are DWI and DUI. DWI is driving while intoxication and DUI is driving under [alcohol] influence.
As far as United States of America is concerned it is certainly a punishable crime if the driver blood contains 0.08 or more concentration of alcohol. In case the driver is aged below 21 years, any amount of alcohol is not permitted at the time of driving. This rule is the same in all states. If the person who is already convicted for drunken driving was caught again, the punishment will be very harsh.

TRAFFIC RULES VIOLATION

The traffic rules must be respected all the time, as the failure of the same will yearn penalty points. If the penalty points reaches sufficient amount the person may be fined heavily, the driving license may be revoked, or the driving license may be suspended for a specific period of time. VIOLATION IN MECHANICAL ASPECT

As far as United States of America is concerned, in all the states, all kinds of motor vehicles need to have certain equipments installed properly. Those equipments or parts must be in good shape and working condition while the vehicle is on the move. Mentioned below are those equipments-
• Headlights, brake lights, indicator lights, number plate lights
• Vehicle brakes
• Vehicle horns
• Vehicle mufflers
• Mirrors of the vehicle
• Belts for the safety of the passengers
• Vehicle reflectors
• The tires of the vehicle
• Windows and windshields of the vehicle
Incase the vehicle is found to be not having the above mentioned parts or equipments or having the equipments but are not in good working condition, the driver of the vehicle will be issued ticket for mechanical violation.

MODIFYING THE VEHICLE IN UNLAWFUL MANNER

In all the states of United States of America, the drivers running the modified vehicles i.e. not permitted by the law will be issued a ticket for unlawful modification of the vehicle. Here are few examples of vehicle modification s that calls for ticket.
• Fixing the non standard lighting such as under-vehicle lights, neon lights etc
• Any kind of alteration or complete removal of emission control and air pollution equipments
• Any kind of alteration in the vehicle ground clearance such as raising or lowering the ground clearance
• Removing the vehicle mufflers and devices that controls the sound and
• Tinting the window either in the driver side or at the passenger side.
Any one of the modifications mentioned above is found in the vehicle the driver will be issued ticket for unlawful vehicle alteration. In some states these tickets are called as “fix it tickets or correctable violations”.

DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT INSURANCE, REGISTRATION AND /OR LICENCE

In all states, the motor vehicle is not permitted to operate or drive if:

• The driver or the vehicle operator is not having vehicle driving license obtained from the state department of motor vehicles

• The vehicle operator or his driver’s license is suspended temporarily or

• The driver or vehicle operator’s driving license is revoked permanently.

Driving the car without proper license obtained or driving the car without having the license obtained in the car [kept at home] is unlawful but the traffic laws in most of the states differentiate both.

Operating the vehicle is unlawful if:

• The vehicle was not registered with the state department of motor vehicle where the vehicle is used primarily or

• The valid registration of the vehicle has expired as the owner failed to pay the required fee for the renewal of the registration with the state motor vehicle department.

• In case the vehicle was found to have expired registration, the owner of the vehicle will be made pay fine. The fine amount will be more if the registration has expired long back and less if the lapse period is less.

In most of the states in United States of America the drivers are supposed to prove their ability to pay the amount to cover the liability in case of an accident. The laws, which stress this, are called as financial responsibility law. The drivers should either carry liability coverage or proof for their financial responsibility.
